About the role

The Clinical Supervisor assists the Director of Outpatient Addiction Services in providing high quality services by supervising clinical and clerical staff and coordinating the delivery of services. Has a full understanding of the Quannacut and SBELIH Missions and promotes the use of sound therapeutic techniques. The Clinical Supervisor provides assessment and treatment services in addition to outreach and educational services. The Clinical Supervisor will assist the director in maintaining treatment in conjunction with NYSOASAS, Joint Commission and DOH regulations and standards of care.

Job Duties & Essential Functions

  • Supervises clinical staff in their direct service to clients.
  • Completes annual assessments on supervised staff and documents staff competencies.
  • Supervises interns.
  • Provides input on program development activities.
  • Makes recommendations for performance improvement activities and assessing program effectiveness.
  • Covers for the Director of Outpatient Addiction Services in his/her absence.
  • Coordinates services with referral sources.
  • Screens potential clients and is available for consults on open cases.
  • Develops relationships with schools and human service agency professionals.
  • Provides consultation services and in-service trainings to community groups, organizations and agencies.
  • Assigns cases to counselors and formulates case dispositions.
  • Reviews case records for adherence to state, federal, and Joint Commission guidelines and regulations.
  • Fulfills certain responsibilities of the Director of Outpatient Addiction Services in his/her absence.
  • Facilitates and provides outreach to the community including public presentations.
  • Provides individual, group, family or marital therapy with clients assessed as having multiple problem areas in addition to substance abuse.
  • Continues to display knowledge of alcohol and other addictive drugs and their effects on human behavior.
  • Displays expert level knowledge of the disease concept and factors that impact recovery.
  • Displays expert insight into human behavior.
  • Works through adverse reactions and/or resistance of patients.
  • Fosters an empathetic and therapeutic relationship and is able to engage the patient.
  • Shows ability to educate, elicit feelings, facilitate self-understanding and motivate patients.
  • Effectively utilizes crisis intervention techniques and their specific application to alcoholic/chemically addicted patients.
  • Effectively uses an array of therapeutic techniques in order to examine underlying, deep-seated issues.
  • Identifies the impact and role of the family and makes appropriate outreach when necessary.
  • Efficiently facilitates referrals as determined by the treatment team.
  • Runs groups/individual sessions, as needed.
  • Locates and utilizes information resources including literature, research findings, and consultation services.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary staff meetings and collaborates regarding treatment recommendations and plans.
  • Understands the history, philosophy and process of recognized self-help and 12 step programs.
  • Effectively communicates in verbal and written forms to health care professionals, community systems, patients and lay persons alike.
  • Maintains accurate and clear records in accordance with SBELIH, QOPS and OASAS policies.
  • Adheres to hospital and departmental rules and regulations.
  • Participate in in-service programs.
  • Participate in annual recertification training, compliance training, HIPPA training.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work and NYS LCSW or equivalent advanced practice healthcare related degree.
  • A minimum of three (3) years post master’s experience in alcoholism/chemical dependency.
  • Understanding of alcoholism/addiction and 12 step programs as demonstrated by a minimum of three (3) years of continuous personal, professional or educational experience.
  • Current BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association.

Physical Demands

  • Sufficient mobility to handle department activities.
  • Dexterity of hands and arms (or mechanical substitutes).
  • Adequate vision and hearing to write, answer phones and communicate with staff, clients, and other departments or agencies.

Anticipated Pay Range The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience.
