About the Role
Implements pharmaceutical services by accurately dispensing medications, including compounded, IV, and chemotherapy drugs, while performing clinical functions such as therapeutic drug monitoring and patient dosing.
Responsibilities
- Check all medications leaving the department for quality assurance.
- Dispense medications based on physician orders, ensuring accuracy and appropriateness.
- Verify dosages and medication details, including refills, unit doses, and IV preparations.
- Communicate with healthcare professionals regarding medication orders, drug interactions, allergies, and dosing questions.
- Use computer systems and reference materials to support therapy decisions and documentation.
- Enter oral and IV medications into pharmacy systems and oversee technician operations.
- Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions and participate in departmental projects and updates.
- Participate in training and contribute to high standards of pharmacy practice.
Requirements
- Licensed Pharmacist with a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy.
- Knowledge of chemotherapy, hyperalimentation, IV admixture, narcotic control, investigational drugs, and medication storage guidelines.
- Strong communication skills and sound judgment in patient care decisions.
- Proficiency with pharmacy computer systems and clinical functions, including dosing and documentation.
