Clinical Pharmacist Specialist - ICU

Join Christian Hospital as a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist and play a direct role in improving patient outcomes in the ICU. Working alongside a multidisciplinary care team, you will participate in daily ICU rounds, provide clinical pharmacy services including order verification, pharmacokinetic, warfarin, and TPN consults, and collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and dietitians. Northwest HealthCare, six miles west of Christian Hospital, offers 24-hour emergency care, a Sleep Disorders Center, and various outpatient diagnostic and imaging services. The pharmacy services both Christian Hospital and Northwest HealthCare, utilizing cutting-edge automation in medication distribution systems. Pharmacists provide clinical services including participation in patient rounds, nutritional therapy, and daily renal function screening with dosage adjustments.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, Days, every 5th weekend.

Role Purpose

Evaluates and recommends appropriate drug therapy to achieve optimal cost-effective patient outcomes by working directly with physicians, other health professionals, and patients. Participates in the development, provision, and evaluation of comprehensive pharmaceutical care and quality assurance programs through scholarly activities. Serves as a resource to the pharmacy staff and other hospital departments.

Responsibilities

• Assess the overall status of the patient’s health condition and evaluate medication profile for optimal patient outcomes.
• Monitor therapy and goals of care.
• Document all activities and communication as appropriate.
• Participate in professional development and research activities.
• Contribute to performance improvement, clinical effectiveness, drug use evaluation, and HSO/BJC committee activities.
• Participate in the education and training of pharmacy staff, residents, and students, and serve as a role model and mentor.
• Participate in the identification and implementation of targeted drug cost reduction programs.

Requirements

• Doctorate in Pharmacy.
• PGY1 residency required.
• Less than 2 years of experience (2–5 years preferred).
• Medication Therapy Services in Missouri (MORPh) certification.
