Role Overview
The Pharmacist Clinical Specialist - Emergency Medicine optimizes medication use in emergency settings for adult and pediatric patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care, including responding to code strokes, cardiac arrests, and procedural sedations.
- Review and evaluate patient-specific therapy regimens, coordinating drug therapy adjustments.
- Assess physical and psychological signs related to drug effects.
- Lead medication reconciliation efforts and interpret medication lists for optimal therapy.
- Develop emergency medicine protocols, guidelines, and educational materials.
- Educate medical, pharmacy, and nursing staff regularly.
Qualifications & Skills
- B.S. in Pharmacy required; Pharm.D. preferred.
- PGY2 in Emergency Medicine/Critical Care or equivalent experience.
- Active pharmacy license in the relevant state; ACLS and PALS certifications; BCPS or BCCCP preferred.
- Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
- Strong knowledge of medication reconciliation, drug therapy review, and emergency care pharmacy principles.
- Excellent judgment, tact, and ability to work independently within policies.
