Clinical Pharmacist Specialist

Overview

Missouri Baptist Medical Center, an acute care hospital in St. Louis County, offers a full continuum of medical and surgical services, including heart care, cancer, women and infants, breast health, gastrointestinal, orthopedic, stroke, therapy, wound and pain management services. The hospital has a 24-hour adult emergency department and cares for pediatric patients at a separate emergency department in collaboration with St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Role Purpose

Evaluates and recommends appropriate drug therapy to achieve optimal cost-effective patient outcomes, by working directly with physicians, other health professionals, and patients. Participates in the development, provision and evaluation of comprehensive pharmaceutical care and quality assurance programs through scholarly activities. Serves as a resource to the pharmacy staff and other hospital departments.

Responsibilities

• Assesses the overall status of the patient’s health condition and evaluates medication profile for optimal patient outcomes.
• Maintains therapy and goals of care.
• Documents all activities and communication as appropriate.
• Participates in professional development and research activities.
• Contributes to performance improvement, clinical effectiveness, drug use evaluation, and HSO/BJC committee activities.
• Participates in the education and training of pharmacy staff, residents and students, and serves as a role model and mentor.
• Identifies and implements targeted drug cost reduction programs.
