The Clinical Nurse I vacancy is open to candidates with 0-1 year of RN work experience. This position is for a 40-bed medical surgical unit focusing on patients requiring a longer length of stay. The unit aims to bridge gaps between various providers, services, and settings through an interprofessional team including geriatrics, nursing, providers, and activities teams.

About the Role

This transitional care unit promotes engagement in art, games, and socialization to maintain the health and morale of its patients. The team demonstrates analytic ability to identify patient needs, risks, and interventions, and provides excellent customer service to patients and families.

Responsibilities

  • Supports Maine Medical Center's mission, vision, and values by exhibiting behaviors such as excellence, competence, collaboration, innovation, respect, patient and family centered care, commitment to the community, and accountability.
  • Assesses, diagnoses, identifies outcomes, plans, implements, documents, and evaluates the effects of nursing care.
  • Delivers and coordinates patient and family care from initial contact with the health care system to the continuum of care.
  • Provides care on inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, and community-based services.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • A current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Maine.
  • Basic knowledge of the research base, theory, practices, principles, and processes of professional nursing.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and health care team members.
  • Analytical ability sufficient to identify changes in patients' conditions and initiate appropriate action.

Qualifications

  • New graduates (less than 6 months of RN experience) are automatically enrolled in the 12-month Nurse Residency Program.
  • RNs with less than 1 year of RN experience may be considered for exceptions to some or all Nurse Residency Program requirements.
  • Clinical Nurse I who meet or exceed all criteria and requirements at the 12-month performance evaluation date will be appointed to the Clinical Nurse II position.
