Clinical Nurse, Outpatient - Sarcoma Center

About the role

The Sarcoma and Orthopaedic Center specializes in treating rare and complex cancers and tumors of the bones and soft tissues, including muscle, joints, and blood vessels. Our team manages both benign and malignant musculoskeletal tumors, metastatic cancers, and pediatric cases. In addition to sarcoma care, we address orthopaedic conditions common in cancer patients, such as arthritis, fractures, osteoporosis, and avascular necrosis. Patients benefit from a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, rheumatologists, pain specialists, and other experts dedicated to comprehensive, compassionate care.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and implement patient care across the continuum of care.
• Provide quality, evidence-based patient care through the appropriate use of resources in collaboration with the inter-professional team.
• Act as a patient and family advocate to uphold patient rights.
• Organize and prioritize work of patient care team; train, coach, and assist team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.
• Lead patients, families, and colleagues to anticipate and meet future care needs.
• Ensure continuity of care through patient education and coordination of services.
• Practice autonomously within the scope of professional nursing standards.
• Participate in or lead practice improvement and care redesign initiatives.
• Integrate research findings and evidence-based practices into daily care.
• Minimize risk behaviors and report incidents using established systems.
• Collaborate on performance improvement efforts.
• Document care accurately and in accordance with institutional standards.
• Maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure as required by law.

Requirements

• Licensed RN with at least one year of oncology nursing experience.
• Certification in Oncology Nursing preferred.
• Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification if working in certain departments.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification if working in certain departments.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
• Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred.

Skills

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work.
• Experience with chemotherapy/biotherapy agents and IV fluid/antibiotic therapy.
• Knowledge of pump connections/disconnections and rapid response to infusion reactions and emergencies.
• Experience with IV insertions and vascular access management.
• Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.

• $68,000 - minimum
• $105,200 midpoint
• $142,500 maximum
