Clinical Laboratory Supervisor – Hematology

Responsibilities
- Management of Staff including first line Supervisors:
- Assigns responsibilities, establishes work hours, monitors staffing, and approves necessary overtime.
- Defines expected outcomes and timelines clearly to first-line supervisors and/or staff.
- Communicates objectives clearly to employees and solicits feedback to ensure understanding.
- Assigns work hours to facilitate adequate staffing and minimize overtime.
- Staff Development, Evaluation, Counseling, and Personnel Activities:
- Directly supervises first-line supervisors and oversees the entire staff.
- Interviews prospective employees, evaluates and documents staff performance, and performs personnel counseling.
- Makes hiring recommendations to the laboratory Administrative Director.
- Recognizes the need for counseling and provides guidance for improving performance.
- Disciplines subordinates in accordance with collective bargaining and Medical Center policies.
- Addresses performance issues promptly with a plan and timeframe for correction.
- Planning, Procedure Development, and Quality Assurance:
- Develops and implements departmental operating policies and procedures.
- Modifies the laboratory's quality control program and ensures compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Develops short and long-range plans with the Clinical Laboratory Director and Administrative Director.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and maintains up-to-date policy and procedure manuals.
- Establishes and monitors quality control, preventive maintenance, safety programs, and data management.
- Cost Containment:
- Participates in cost control by seeking effective methods for delivering quality services.
- Monitors and evaluates practices to identify areas of excessive material costs.
- Reschedules staff to minimize overtime within collective bargaining constraints.
- Interacts with sales representatives to determine cost-effective materials and instrumentation.
- Reviews and approves payroll information and provides cost data for annual budget preparation.
- Reports/Documentation:
- Prepares reports and oversees all departmental documentation.
- Reviews and revises standards of written documentation for compliance with regulations.
- Prepares statistical data of departmental operations for submission to the Administrative Director.
- Assists in preparing the department’s annual report.
- Time Utilization:
- Prioritizes and coordinates responsibilities to ensure smooth laboratory operations.
- Plans work in advance and adheres to priorities with minimal changes.
- Demonstrates flexibility in adjusting to fluctuating needs of the laboratory and Medical Center.
- Safety:
- Ensures staff compliance with risk assessment measures, safety procedures, and PPE.
- Assigns HIPAA and safety in-service courses in iDevelop.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or Science.
- Minimum of seven years in a clinical laboratory with supervisory/management responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Good computer skills, flexibility, and multitasking abilities.
- ASCP registry preferred.
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Pay
The salary range for this role is $145,220 - $159,000 annually, plus an evening shift differential for the evening shift. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. This range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
