About the role
The Hematology Lab Supervisor position at Quest Diagnostics in Miramar, FL operates Tuesday to Saturday from 12:00 AM to 8:30 AM. The role is full-time with a competitive salary range starting at $90,000k and includes a $10,000 sign-on bonus for external candidates. Salary and benefits are determined by a range of factors including experience, education, and market conditions.
Responsibilities
- Oversee activities of the department, distribute/assign work, determine priorities, and schedule non-routine procedures.
- Perform supervisory functions for assigned staff, including interviewing, hiring, training, and providing staff development through performance evaluation and corrective counseling.
- Perform advanced/specialized tests and other related laboratory techniques.
- Duplicate work of others to confirm test results, re-evaluate methodology, assist in test interpretation, and ensure adherence to laboratory standards.
- Initiate quality-control measures and monitor the quality of work.
- Perform duties of a technologist as necessary due to absence or peak workload.
- Complete special projects as requested, such as surveys, statistical reports, studies, research, etc.
- Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
- Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
- Adhere to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
- Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practice controls as directed by management.
- Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel, if applicable.
- Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed.
Qualifications
- Four (4) to six (6) years full-time experience as a medical technologist or equivalent in a clinical laboratory.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
Physical And Mental Requirements
- Lift and carry objects: 1 to 10 pounds frequently, 11 to 25 pounds occasionally, and objects over 50 pounds rarely.
- Sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Manual dexterity required for using various manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments and apparatuses.
Skills
- Proven leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Detail-oriented and able to work independently, establish work priorities, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, including confidentiality of client information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology (preferred).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related field (required).
Licenses and Certifications
- ASCP Certification (preferred).
