The Role

The Clinical Educator coordinates and conducts education for nursing staff, which will enhance quality and safe patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures nursing staff within the service line units are educated to assess and identify patient care needs for assigned patients.
  • Education is provided based on unit/patient needs and includes but is not limited to service line academies, skill-based competency, equipment uses expertise, and/or clinical assessment competency.
  • Collaborate with Director of Clinical and Life Support Education, Manager of Clinical and Life Support Education, Directors of Nursing, and Nurse Managers to provide learning sessions to enhance staff knowledge and competency in the management of cost effective/clinically effective complex patient and family centered care.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required; BSN required.
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in applicable state.
  • BCLS required.
  • 3 years’ clinical experience in area of interest required.
  • National certification in specialty preferred, encouraged to obtain within one year of hire.

Qualifications

  • Teaches and demonstrates proficiency in patient physical assessment skills, patient care and nursing skills (i.e. mobility, respiratory care, nutrition, pain management, oral care, preventing infection, lift equipment, vital sign monitoring equipment).
  • Reinforces policies and procedures, protocols and guidelines with nursing staff.
  • Collaborate with nurse manager, assistant nurse manager, preceptors and NPDS to design, implement, and evaluate the nursing unit’s orientation and annual needs assessment education plan.
  • Creates and maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, self, co-workers, and facility including assisting in teaching interpretation of and developing strategies to address nurse sensitive indicators and performance improvement.
  • Supports provision of age/developmentally appropriate patient care in accordance with Age/Developmental Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served.
