Responsibilities
- Completes nutrition-focused physical assessments, takes measurements, reviews medical records, collects data via interviews, and evaluates anthropometric status.
- Evaluates assessment data to identify nutrition risks, nutrition problems, criteria consistent with malnutrition, knowledge deficits, and high-risk health behaviors.
- Offers nutrition interventions, orders, education, counseling, and referrals to other services.
- May place feeding tubes or perform indirect calorimetry studies.
- Provides counseling and education using evidence-based techniques that reflect appropriate health literacy and cultural sensitivity to patients with disease processes requiring nutritional management.
- Makes sure nutrition care plans are monitored and evaluated to reach nutrition goals and promote optimal outcomes.
- Supervises practice experience for dietetic interns, dietetic technicians, registration eligible dietitians and new employees, participates in research, performance improvement, and initiatives.
- Enters complete, accurate, and timely electronic health record documentation.
- Enters nutrition orders when authorized by Medical Staff policy and procedure to reflect patient care.
- Participates in patient care rounds, collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals to create nutrition plans of care.
- Promotes evidence-based nutrition care and makes expertise available to foodservice areas.
- Provides timely responses to internal electronic communication.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Read, write and speak English; handwriting must be legible.
- Knowledgeable with the National Research Council’s Recommended Dietary Allowances.
- Able to communicate patient nutrition needs to the physician, nursing staff, and other appropriate staff.
- Able to apply Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Nutrition Care Process.
- Mathematical capabilities essential to job duties.
- Proficient in Microsoft Windows.
- Able to use a telephone, calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and computer.
- Inter-campus travel.
- Proficiency in CBORD computerized foodservice program.
Preferred
- Bilingual.
Education
- Completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (AND) in nutrition or nutrition related field AND 3-year clinical experience.
- Graduate degree in nutrition or nutrition related field AND 1-year clinical experience in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Sciences, Human Nutrition, or nutrition related field.
Work Experience
- 2+ experience in acute care setting.
- 3+ experience.
- Acute Care and Rehabilitation experience.
- Experience using Cerner electronic medical record.

$49,307.53 - $91,705.34
Background Screening Requirement
Certain positions are subject to Florida Level 2 background screening, including fingerprinting, as required by state law.
