About the role

This Clerical Assistant 2 position with the Department of Human Services' Westmoreland County Assistance Office supports an office that helps people access important programs. The role assists staff by keeping information organized and moving efficiently, provides clear communication to customers, and offers dependable support in a structured, routine‑oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Application Processing: Enter client information, clear files, and forward applications for intake.
  • Case Maintenance: Prepare narratives, update case records, and issue ACCESS cards.
  • Message Handling: Process cluster messages and direct calls to staff as needed.
  • Mail and Fax Duties: Sort, date‑stamp, distribute, and send mail and faxes each day.
  • Scanning Tasks: Scan and index renewals, SARs, and other assigned case materials.
  • Front Desk Support: Greet walk‑in customers and assist with reception activities.

Schedule

Full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week. Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 1‑hour lunch.

Pay

Starting annual salary of $36,831 (before taxes) for candidates new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Telework

This position may be eligible for part‑time telework. Specific details of the telework schedule will be discussed during the interview process. Employees must have a securely configured high‑speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If unable to telework, the employee may report to the headquarters office in Greensburg, PA. Telework eligibility is subject to change.

Requirements

  • Minimum of six months experience as a Clerical Assistant 1 (or equivalent Federal Government job title), or a high school diploma, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Must meet Pennsylvania residency requirements; hiring preference given to residents of Westmoreland County.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Pass a background investigation and submit required criminal history reports.
