Clerical Assistant 2 - Mercer County Assistance Office

This position supports daily office operations by carrying out clerical tasks that ensure information is processed accurately and shared with the correct staff. The role requires consistent communication, reliable organization, and careful handling of documents.
Responsibilities
- Data Entry Tasks: Complete data entry transactions, verify accuracy, clear files, and process typing assignments and scanned materials
- Communication Support: Answer calls, relay messages, route inquiries, operate phone systems, and participate in meetings and trainings
- Document Processing: Interpret instructions, calculate required information, complete forms, maintain logs, and proofread materials
- Verification Assistance: Assist with identity and citizenship checks by processing forms and working with J NET systems
- File Maintenance: Keep files updated, purge records as required, and refresh manuals and directories with revised pages
- Clerical Operations: Support caseworkers, process checks and forms, handle mail, maintain supplies, prepare EBT cards, and travel for trainings when needed
Schedule
Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week. Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with a 1-hour lunch.
This position may be eligible to telework part-time. Specific details of the telework schedule will be discussed during the interview process. To telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Hermitage, PA. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

Pay
Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,831 (before taxes).

Requirements
- Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Graduation from high school; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
You must meet the PA residency requirement. Hiring preference for this vacancy will be given to candidates who live within Mercer County. If no eligible candidates who live within Mercer County apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
A conditional offer of employment will require submission of criminal history reports. You must pass a background investigation.
