About the role
This Clerical Assistant 2 position with the Department of Human Services' Butler County Assistance Office supports a busy office serving individuals and families across the community. The role involves keeping important information organized and moving smoothly between staff and clients, supporting daily operations through clear communication and dependable clerical work.
Responsibilities
- Application Processing: Enter client information, clear files, and forward applications for intake.
- Case Maintenance: Prepare narratives, maintain records, and issue ACCESS cards.
- Front Desk Support: Greet walk‑in customers and assist with reception duties.
- Message Handling: Process cluster messages and direct telephone inquiries to staff.
- Mail and Fax Duties: Manage incoming and outgoing mail and faxes each day.
- Scanning Tasks: Scan and index renewals, SARs, and other case materials as assigned.
Schedule
Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week. Work hours are 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday‑Friday, with a 1‑hour lunch. Travel and overtime may be required. This position may be eligible for part‑time telework, subject to approval and a securely configured high‑speed internet connection.
Pay
Starting annual salary of $36,831 (before taxes) for candidates new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Qualifications
- Minimum experience: six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (or equivalent Commonwealth or Federal job title), or a high‑school diploma, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Must meet Pennsylvania residency requirements; hiring preference given to Butler County residents.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
- Pass a background investigation and submit criminal history reports as required.
