About the role
Clayton is a leading single-family, values-driven home builder dedicated to attainable housing, sustainable practices, and creating a world-class experience for customers and team members. As a Class A CDL Toter Driver, you will be responsible for the transportation of oversized and overweight loads, maintaining accurate paperwork, and ensuring professional vehicle appearance. This position reports to the Terminal Manager and collaborates with Driver Supervisors, the Home Center Team, the Manufacturing Team, and Pilot Escorts.
Responsibilities
- Safely and effectively transport oversized loads within the region.
- Operate and maintain all equipment, including daily maintenance checks and electronic driver logs, to meet DOT compliance standards.
- Partner with Driver Supervisors and Pilot/Escort Drivers to coordinate daily permits and load selection for delivery.
- Coordinate pickup, delivery, and placement of oversized loads at appointed retail locations.
- Provide route information and best practices to the oversized load team.
- Return to the terminal with completed delivery paperwork in a timely manner.
- Perform end-of-shift/day cleanup procedures, including cleaning and servicing workstations and equipment.
- Report any traffic accidents or load damages to local authorities and the driver supervisor team promptly.
- Deliver a world-class customer experience while over-the-road and during home delivery.
- Ensure all required permits are obtained before delivery.
Requirements
- Class A CDL with extensive experience and skills.
- Experience transporting oversized and overweight loads.
- Ability to maintain accurate paperwork and ensure professional vehicle appearance.
- Commitment to safe operation of all equipment and compliance with DOT standards.
