Claims Technical Director – Excess Claims
Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities
- Manages a book of excess claims for a significant size, complex product(s) or for the line of business.
- Responsible for conducting thorough investigations, critically assessing coverage and liability, and formulating strategic approaches to claim resolution.
- Analyzes and negotiates settlements within prescribed authority, and participates in arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials.
- Develops and implements strategic coverage decisions, determining outcomes, and formulating negotiation strategies for stakeholders.
- Oversees the issuance of payments within assigned authority limits, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Serves as the technical expert on a product(s).
- Evaluates and makes recommendations to executive management on internal and external issues of strategic importance to a product(s).
- Accountable for achieving performance targets/business results.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience.
- Generally, a minimum of 15 years of experience in property and casualty claims handling.
- Completion of a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Claims (AIC).
- Operates at the highest authority level on complex, high-impact assignments, possessing extensive technical knowledge and skills in both product and industry.
- Serves as the technical expert on a product(s).
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ensures compliance with all legal, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
- Accountable for achieving performance targets/business results.
Additional Information
Provides technical advice and support to lower-level positions, management, and other departments.
Requires prolonged sitting.
Continuous use of computer.
May lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 10 lbs.
Core in-office days are Tuesday–Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs.
