About the role
This position provides timely, efficient and high-quality administrative claims support to the TAC Risk Management Services (RMS) Claims division as set forth in the Claims Standards & Procedures, customer service and timely updates to TAC RMP members, county officials, staff, and the general public.
Essential Job Functions
- Perform claims intake and file set up for assigned lines of coverage.
- Maintain and distribute accurate, timely, and professional written correspondence.
- Process claims payments, including settlements and other accounts payable, and provide notification on payments to TAC staff, defense and plaintiff’s counsel.
- Manage files from within the risk information management system (RMIS), including timely and accurate input of claims related information, scanning, document uploading and storage.
- Index and distribute all claims documents, mail and faxes as well as provide copying and filing services.
- Prepare spreadsheets and reports.
- Work with divisional and interdepartmental teams on projects to represent the Claims Division.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience / Education Requirements
- A high school graduate or equivalent required.
- An associates’ or bachelors’ degree preferred.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in a clerical environment required - claims environment preferred.
- Texas Department of Insurance all lines adjuster license preferred.
- Experience with insurance company, pool or third-party administrator preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
- Prior auto physical damage claims and liability adjusting experience preferred.
Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to relate to persons with a variety of cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
- Good working knowledge of insurance and the claims process as well as legal terms related to claims.
- A high degree of professionalism and confidentiality in representing TAC in significant contacts with elected officials, members, claimants, and others.
- Proficient in use of personal computer and Microsoft Office.
- Must have or develop proficiency in the risk information management system (RMIS).
- Excellent time management, attention to detail, and record keeping required.
- Ability to function in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of efficiency, accuracy and the ability to prioritize tasks and requests.
Physical Requirements
- May be required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
- May be required to lift or move boxes and designated TAC equipment, up to 25 pounds.
- May be required to stand, bend, kneel, reach or squat occasionally for extended lengths of time.
- May be required to climb stairs or a ladder.
- May require minimal travel.
