About the role

Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies, Workers Compensation Division, seeks a Claims Manager to lead and develop indemnity claim teams in San Diego.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, lead, and develop indemnity claim teams through effective management of Claim Supervisors, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, priorities, and performance expectations.
  • Ensure claims are administered in compliance with applicable statutes, regulations, case law, and company standards, while achieving strong results in internal and external claim audits.
  • Maintain operational and individual performance metrics, implementing strategies and corrective actions to improve claim quality, productivity, customer satisfaction, and claim outcomes.
  • Oversee and guide complex, high-exposure, litigated, and strategically significant claims, ensuring sound claim resolution strategies and appropriate risk management practices.
  • Promote and safeguard the financial integrity of claim files through timely and accurate reserving, settlement authority oversight, and effective claim cost containment practices.
  • Utilize data analytics, reporting tools, and emerging technologies to identify trends, measure performance, mitigate risk, and drive operational improvements.
  • Manage escalated customer concerns, complaints, and service issues, ensuring timely resolution and preservation of key business relationships.
  • Represent the organization in client meetings, claim reviews, audits, and other business forums, reinforcing the company's commitment to exceptional service and claim outcomes.
  • Establish and communicate clear expectations, monitor results, and hold leaders accountable for performance, compliance, service standards, and professional conduct.
  • Foster a culture of inclusion, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement that supports employee development and organizational success.

Qualifications

  • Educational background: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or minimum 8 years relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and technical training combined.
  • Certifications/licenses: Designation for California adjusting or ability to achieve within 9 months from placement into position.
  • Experience: Minimum 8 years of work experience in workers compensation insurance claims adjusting, claims operations, or a closely related function, with a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Technical skills: Knowledge of workers compensation regulatory requirements and best practices; proficiency with Microsoft Office/365 applications and ability to quickly demonstrate mastery of proprietary and vendor software programs; demonstrated proficiency in analyzing data from various sources and identifying issues and trends.
