Civil Team Lead

Wilson & Company’s Kansas City Office is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to lead a team delivering street, highway, and interstate projects across Missouri and the Midwest. This role involves assisting in winning new projects, growing the transportation group, and managing the career growth of direct reports. You will collaborate with clients, project managers, and support staff to ensure successful project completion, with full support from senior staff.

About the role

This position focuses on serving Missouri and Midwest clients while supporting opportunities company-wide. You will manage projects throughout their full lifecycle, develop scopes and hours, write technical proposals, and oversee project delivery and quality management. The role includes delivering technical tasks, reviewing design specifications, calculations, reports, and plans, and coordinating with multi-discipline teams to address design issues. Experience with state and local municipalities on highways, streets, or sidewalks and trails is required. A strong background with MoDOT is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team to deliver street, highway, and interstate projects
• Assist in winning new projects and growing the transportation group
• Manage the career growth of direct reports
• Work closely with clients, project managers, and support staff
• Develop project scopes, hours, and technical sections of proposals
• Oversee project delivery and quality management plans
• Deliver technical tasks, including design specifications, calculations, reports, and plans
• Coordinate with internal multi-discipline teams to solve design-related issues
• Mentor less experienced staff
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering
• Licensed engineer in the state of Missouri
• Minimum 6 years of experience in the design of streets and highways
• Proficiency with Microstation/OpenRoads
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations for street/highway design
• Experience mentoring less experienced staff

Preferred Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience
• Specific experience executing projects for MoDOT
• Established client relationships
• Experience contracting on MoDOT projects

Pay

Annual salary range: $90,000 - $120,000
