Civil/Structural Engineering Manager

Job Summary

The Structural Engineering Lead is responsible for supervision and technical direction over a team of engineers, ensuring timely, within budget, and quality-driven delivery of civil/structural deliverables.

Primary Responsibilities

• Review and approval of all civil/structural deliverables.
• Validation of professional services and construction estimates at the onset of projects and tracking changes as the project progresses.
• Accomplishing engineering activities such as stress analysis, construction specifications, material procurement specifications, calculations, and estimates.
• Producing professional service estimates in accordance with department standards.
• Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary.
• Establishing design criteria, incorporating client requirements, estimate and/or scope basis, and design basis meeting applicable standards and codes.
• Ensuring requirements for permitting have been established and communicated to the project team.
• Working knowledge of scope and deliverables, initiating timely change notices when deviations affect schedule, deliverables, or cost.
• Planning and organizing work of your team, communicating plans to the project leadership team and the client.
• Maintaining control of the project by tracking and maintaining discipline performance budget progress, schedule commitments, and quality standards.
• Utilizing project tools for project control.
• Delegating work to engineers in proportion to their technical skills and experience, then following up for support.
• Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines in proportion to their technical skills and experience, then following up for support.
• Producing detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction.
• Producing project designs with efficiency in construction materials.
• Checking calculations made by other engineers for accuracy, conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria, and good engineering practice.
• Producing construction specifications.
• Monitoring drawings in progress to ensure conformance to design calculations and specifications.
• Aiding the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.
• Ensuring sufficient sketches and details are provided for completion of engineering drawings.
• Producing bid packages enabling civil/structural purchase inquiries to be issued for procurement of materials or subcontract pricing.
• Understanding and applying company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
• Leading project teams to deliver on commitments.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Excellent presentation and virtual team skills.
• Leadership in the Community of Practice.

• Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
