Civil Structural Engineering Project Manager

In this role, you will oversee all technical aspects of major construction projects that support SCE’s fleet of power plants, including dams in the Sierra Nevada mountains, combined cycle power plants in Redlands, diesel generators on Catalina Island, and more. These high-visibility projects have significant financial and operational impacts on the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the technical activities of one or more moderate, short to mid-term projects or programs with responsibility for results in terms of costs, schedule, methods, and project objectives.
  • Manages large, complex, and high-risk projects or programs with oversight from senior leadership.
  • Exercises considerable latitude and judgement in developing technical plans, schedules, and resources, directing activities and actions, and determining deliverables.
  • With oversight of leadership, develops strategy and business plans, objectives, and initiatives for engineering projects; leads the development and management of the engineering schedule; leads technical change control process.
  • Decides appropriate methods and procedures for new projects with significant independence.
  • Engages with all levels of management and acts as a key consultant for both functional and business issues.
  • Contributes regularly to materials for executive and senior management on project-related issues and prescribed milestones for approval.
  • Leads engineering design reviews and evaluation of technical project documents to identify gaps, errors, or areas for improvement.
  • Reviews engineering drawings, specifications, and site plans to ensure constructability and compliance with regulations and identifies issues or gaps proactively.
  • Oversees development of project execution plans, procedures, testing protocols, and quality control programs that align with engineering requirements.
  • Facilitates integration of engineering design deliverables, reviews, drawings, models, specs, and calculations into overall project execution plans.
  • Coordinates multiple internal matrixed and outside stakeholder input and technical deliverables to support overall project progress.
  • Applies technical knowledge and experience and engages SMEs to provide technical judgment and experience to enable risk-informed technical oversight of projects.
  • Develops contract bid specifications that include project scope, specifications, requirements, performance, and acceptance criteria.
  • Ensures work scope is developed so that technical risk and value engineering decisions are made in a way that benefits the overall project and company needs.
  • A material job duty is ensuring the protection of all physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Requirements

  • Seven or more years of experience in engineering project management.
  • Possess a valid Class C Driver's License.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering required; advanced Structural degree preferred.
  • P.E. License preferred.
  • PMP Certificate preferred.
  • Utility power generation experience with background in Civil Structural engineering relevant to thermal and/or hydro power generation assets.
  • Experience managing the delivery of scope, schedule, and budget commitments by engineering design contractors.

Schedule

This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

Position is based out of Rosemead, CA and will require up to 40% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.

Additional Information

  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position. Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
  • Relocation does not apply to this position.
