CIVIL ENGINEER V

About the role

A Civil Engineer V performs difficult professional engineering work in supervising and participating in the design, construction, maintenance and operation of civil engineering projects.

Responsibilities

• Supervising preliminary and final surveys
• Designing structures such as reservoirs, retaining walls, bridges, culverts, tunnels, pipelines, sewers, sidewalks, highways, etc.
• Assigning subordinate engineers and inspectors to construction projects
• Settling disputes between contractors and inspectors
• Approving construction changes

Requirements

• Three vacancies with the Honolulu Board of Water Supply (BWS), Capital Projects Division
• Two vacancies in the Design & Plan Review Branch
• One vacancy in the Construction Management Pipeline Section
• Five vacancies with the Department of Design and Construction (DDC)
• Two vacancies in the Civil Division, including one in the Structural Support Section
• Responsible for managing engineering projects involving bridge improvements, earth movement and slope stabilization, and guardrail and roadway safety improvements.
• Three vacancies in the Facilities Division
• Nine vacancies with the Department of Environmental Services (ENV)
• Three vacancies in the Collection System Maintenance Division
• Three vacancies in the Environmental Quality Division
• One vacancy in the Wastewater Engineering & Construction Division
• Two vacancies with the Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM), Storm Water Quality Division

Qualifications

• Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an engineering specialty.
• One year of registered professional civil engineering experience.
• Licenses: Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license, as required. Possession of a valid license as a professional Civil Engineer in the State of Hawaii.
