About the role

Ayres is seeking a confident and skilled design engineer to contribute to transportation projects for public and private clients. This role involves working on a variety of projects, from two-lane rural roads to complex interchanges, alongside experienced project managers and engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Discuss project objectives, challenges, and identify design strategies with the design team.
  • Perform geometric design and other design tasks for roadway improvement projects in compliance with design standards, Ayres quality standards, and contract requirements.
  • Prepare final plans, specifications, and estimates.
  • Aid in or lead the preparation of various design reports.
  • Participate in regular group meetings to review and coordinate project schedules and deliverables.
  • Mentor less experienced staff.
  • Review work performed by others for quality control purposes.
  • Build and maintain respectful working relationships with fellow co-workers within the company.
  • Participate in office-wide social events.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in transportation.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in transportation-related design.
  • Experience and proficiency with Civil 3D, AutoCAD (preferred), and/or other similar roadway design software.
  • A valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Desired Skills and Experiences

  • An enthusiastic focus and interest in using roadway design software for creative design solutions and quality deliverables.
  • WisDOT experience is a plus.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Wisconsin.
  • An interest and willingness to develop consistently and grow professionally.
  • A desire to present Ayres Associates as a subject matter expert at professional meetings and conferences.
  • Experience with 3D Roadway modeling is a plus.
