About the role
The mission of NYC Parks is to plan resilient and sustainable parks, public spaces, and recreational amenities, build a park system for present and future generations, and care for parks and public spaces. Citywide Services (CWS) is responsible for NYC Parks major infrastructure including swimming pools, ice skating rinks, heating and cooling systems. CWS works closely with borough trades to address issues agency-wide. CWS produces thousands of items annually for use throughout the Agency.
Responsibilities
- Assist manager in developing, coordinating and organizing daily work assignments for CWS’ Renew Crew.
- Supervise, instruct, train, and dispatch employees assigned to the Renew Crew.
- Carry out various administrative tasks including scheduling, dispatching daily activities; securing equipment and supplies; coordinating with the Community Coordinator and other Parks divisions and outside vendors; timekeeping and managing transportation and vehicle service issues.
- Cookordinate and supervise operations to include material deliveries, vehicle needs, tracking and placing purchase orders.
- Organize and oversee general tasks for the next day’s operations.
- Aid in documenting program progress, attendance, compliance and evaluations, and provide periodic updates to CWS management.
- Attend and participate in periodic planning meetings with CWS management.
- Support the duties of an APRM in that person's absence.
Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, plus two years of full-time satisfactory experience in gardening, grounds maintenance, in the automotive trades, in the building construction or maintenance trades, or as a climber and pruner or tree worker performing climbing and pruning duties. One year of this experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above; including one year in a supervisory capacity.
- A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to "1" or "2" above.
- Two years of college education may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Preferred Skills
- Strong organizational and leadership skills and ability to motivate staff.
- Experience training or demonstrated ability to train a group of employees.
- Experience in or demonstrated ability to carry out various administrative duties requiring computer skills and knowledge of software such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Good attendance record.
- Available to work evenings and weekends.
- Site work project experience including demolition, color seal coat installation, safety surface repairs, fencing repairs, bench replacement and play equipment repairs.
Benefits
Salary range: $83,370.00 – $95,876.00
