City Attorney

About the role

We are seeking an exceptional legal leader to join the City of Alamogordo as their next City Attorney. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in local government law, litigation, employment law, and legal risk management.

Responsibilities

• Advise elected officials, executive leadership, and department directors
• Oversight of municipal legal operations
• Provide strategic legal guidance in a fast-paced local government environment
• Legal counsel and representation to the City Commission, City Manager, boards and commissions, and all municipal departments
• Report to the City Manager

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
• Five (5) years of experience as a practicing attorney
• Five (5) years of supervisory experience
• Prosecution experience
• Must be bondable
• Licensed to practice law in New Mexico, or ability to obtain licensure within six months
• Member in good standing with the Bar Association
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record

Qualifications

• Substantial experience in local government law, litigation, employment law, and legal risk management
• Municipal law experience
• Employment law experience
• Experience advising governmental entities or public agencies
• Strong courtroom, negotiation, and public presentation skills

Pay

The salary range for this position is $97,882 - $151,747, depending on experience and qualifications.
