Circulation Services Assistant, Part-time
About the role
This person will be responsible for providing library circulation services, opening/closing the library, training and directing the daily work of casual part-time library assistants and library student workers. This person will assist with maintaining the schedules for student workers, staff coverage of service desks, and contact person coverage. Additionally, this person will assist with hold notices, stack maintenance, library reserves services, and provide support for Archives and Special Collections. Position schedule to be determined by the college. Schedule will vary during non-instructional and summer periods. Flexibility required to meet the needs of the library.
Responsibilities
- Provide assistance and coverage for all library service desks.
- Respond to emergencies following established procedures.
- Direct daily work of casual part-time library services assistants and library student workers.
- Assist with maintaining circulation desk schedules for student workers and staff; monitor advance requests off/changes/gaps and coordinate adjustments as needed, including coverage of service desks.
- Provide training and orientation for circulation services areas.
- Monitor and respond to alarms at the security gates and alarmed exit doors.
- Open and close the library when scheduled, using established procedures.
- Assist with processing library memberships for community members as needed.
- Assist with stack maintenance, following established procedures and guidelines.
- Assist with searching for missing, claimed returned, and claimed lost items.
- Monitor and shred confidential circulation services information on a weekly basis.
- Assist with hold notices and check/process library materials.
- Provide support for library reserves services.
- Provide support for Archives and Special Collections to include retrieval services of archives materials and transcription.
Education
- Associate's Degree in appropriate discipline or equivalent combination of education and work experience that qualifies the person to perform the functions of the position. (Required)
- Bachelor's Degree in appropriate discipline. (Preferred)
Experience
- One (1) year of library work experience, preferably in a customer service capacity or equivalent experience in an appropriately related discipline. (Required)
- Experience with integrated library systems. (Preferred)
- Experience with a variety of hardware and software applications. (Preferred)

Physical Requirements
- Ability to push a loaded book truck on wheels; weight of loaded book truck is dependent upon incumbent's own physical capabilities.
- Ability to reach shelves at heights of approximately 7 feet while standing on stool.
- Some lifting not to exceed 35 lbs., accommodations can be made for occasional exceptions.
- Standing for long periods of time may be required.
Pay
Based on minimum education and experience qualifications the hourly range is $18.51 - $23.42.
