Circulation Services Assistant

The Whitefish Bay Public Library seeks a friendly, service-minded individual to join their team. Responsibilities

• Circulate materials to patrons, ensuring they have a positive and helpful experience.
• Direct patrons to the appropriate service points and assist with inquiries.
• Use the automated circulation system to process transactions, including checking materials in and out, processing holds, and handling MCFLS delivery items.
• Register new patrons and update their records.
• Collect and inform patrons about fines and fees.
• Pull materials from shelves and route them for holds or delivery.
• Accept donated materials from patrons.
• Communicate with the next shift of clerks about important matters or updates.
• Maintain confidentiality of patron information.
• Perform other duties as required.

Processing (workroom) Activities

• Prepare, repair, and recondition library materials.
• Process materials for withdrawal or discard.
• File CDs and pamphlets.
• Sort and route mail, books, and periodicals as assigned.

Peripherals

• Operate automated shared resource system and circulation module.
• Use networked personal computer and peripherals.
• Operate printers, copy machine, fax machine, telephone, calculator, paper cutter, laminator, and elevator.
• Operate book carts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Experience working with the public in a customer service environment.
• Basic understanding and knowledge of library materials and methods.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the public and other staff members.
• Ability to operate all items used in the job.
