About the role
The Circle and Tribunal Coordinator position works directly with the Director of Circle and Tribunal Administration and Clerk(s). They also work closely with internal and external resources and stakeholders to Nigig who may be involved in the decision-making mechanisms offered under Nigig Nibi Ki-win (family circles, healing circles, and tribunals).
Responsibilities
- Organize all aspects of Circle and Tribunal gatherings, including location/facility details, scheduling all participants and ensuring all relevant documents are provided as required.
- Liaise with both internal staff, and external service providers and agencies as may be necessary in the planning of tribunals and circles.
- Prepare, provide and/or distribute documentation or correspondence leading up to, or during, circles and/or a tribunal, as well as the delivery of accurate and timely correspondence to legal as may be required.
- Report to the Director with respect to the administration of circles and tribunals, and support in the review of policy and protocol development within the context of decision-making process.
- Facilitate the organization of training and/or answer immediate questions for Circle facilitators and Tribunal members.
- Support the Director in outreach activities.
- Operate under tight deadlines with competing priorities, while maintaining a high degree of attention to details and quality of service.
Requirements
- Be a recognized member of Pikwakanagan/Algonquin community.
- Possess a demonstrated understanding of the social work field, particularly with respect to child well-being.
- Diplomas or certifications specific to the social services or human services fields of work would be an asset.
- Have 2-3 years of experience in event planning or related.
- Have an understanding of the current challenges faced by Eji tibenindàgwazidjig Anishinàbeg Pikwakanagan.
- Being certified in First Aid and CPR is preferred, willingness to obtain is required.
- Possesses a class "G" driver's licence; clear driver's abstract and access to a dependable vehicle.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Indigenous knowledge, in particular, knowledge of Algonquin child and family values, traditions, and practices.
- Knowledge of traditional restorative practices.
- Knowledge of local, regional, and provincial Indigenous and non-Indigenous services.
- Ability to implement and follow policy(ies) and protocols.
- Coordination and planning of people and events.
- Develop and maintain professional networks locally and across the province.
- Proficiency in the use of computers and various software programs.
