Position Summary

The Sales Manager is responsible for leading, directing, and developing the sales team to achieve monthly and annual sales goals. This role drives revenue growth, builds strong customer relationships, oversees sales operations, supports contract negotiations, manages staff development, and ensures exceptional customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Set monthly and annual sales quotas for the sales team.
  • Develop and increase sales revenue to achieve assigned departmental targets by leading, directing, and motivating sales staff.
  • Analyze sales performance data and create action plans to address performance gaps.
  • Coordinate with the purchasing department to forecast product shortages and manage sales of limited-availability products to maximize profitability.
  • Ensure timely payment collection while maintaining positive customer relationships.
  • Research market trends and competitive activity and attend trade shows to stay informed on products, services, and industry developments.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, and develop new sales team members.
  • Safely maintain and operate a company vehicle in accordance with company policies.
  • Attend company events and business functions outside normal working hours as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Respond to management requests and directives as required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of sales experience in the Japanese food industry.
  • Minimum of 1 year of management or supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of Japanese foods, fresh fish, seafood, and liquor products.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems such as Microsoft Business Central, SAP, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and workloads.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Work environment includes office settings and customer locations with noise levels ranging from normal to loud.

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Business-level English proficiency (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).
  • Business-level Japanese required; native-level Japanese preferred.
  • Experience working with wholesalers, distributors, restaurants, and food service customers.
  • Experience in Japanese food import, distribution, or wholesale operations.
  • Advanced knowledge of industry market trends and customer relationship management.

Pay

Base salary USD $70,000 - $85,000 annually (DOE) + commission based on performance.

Location & Schedule

Houston, TX. Primarily office-based with approximately 50% field travel to customer locations, including restaurants, wholesalers, distributors, and other client sites. Ability to work weekends, holidays, and after-hours for company events, inventory counts, trade shows, and customer-related functions. Onsite work style.
