Child and Family Respite Provider

As a Respite Provider, you’ll spend quality time with children through fun, engaging, and meaningful activities that match their unique interests, personalities, and abilities. From creative play and outdoor adventures to games, crafts, and community activities, you’ll help create positive experiences that build confidence, joy, and connection.
This flexible per diem position offers approximately 2–16 hours per week based on caseload and your availability, with most services taking place after school, during evenings, and on weekends. In this role, you’ll provide children with one-on-one support while giving families valuable time to rest and recharge. Activities are designed to be inclusive, accessible, and easy for families to continue within their everyday routines, regardless of background or resources.
Principal Responsibilities
- Provide one to one care to youth.
- Encourage the child’s participation by providing interactive activities.
- Discuss the child’s day with the parents and complete notes at the end of the shift outlining completed activities and behavior.
- Encourage consistency of service by maintaining communication with parents and the Respite Coordinator.
- Maintain a flexible schedule to meet the family’s needs.
- Complete documentation and service notes in a timely manner.
- Report to the Respite Coordinator and actively seek consultation whenever necessary or requested by the Respite Coordinator.
- Attend required supervision, training, and in-service meetings.
Candidates Must Have
- A High School Diploma or GED.
- At least one year of experience working with children (preferably children with special needs).
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, supporting children between 2 - 16 hours a week after school and/or on the weekends.
- Comfortable providing home visits in a variety of locations throughout Rutland County and driving clients.
- A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation with personal automobile liability insurance coverage at or above the levels mandated by the State of Vermont.
