Charge Nurse (RN) - Emergency Department

About the role

The ED - Emergency Department Charge Nurse (RN) is responsible for coordinating departmental functions, managing patient care, and overseeing staff in a busy emergency setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality patient care per standards
• Supervise and delegate tasks to RNs, LPNs, and CNAs based on patient needs and staff competencies
• Develop and implement plans to meet regulatory requirements
• Train and mentor staff
• Manage scheduling and daily operations
• Act as a liaison to internal teams and external providers, ensuring excellent customer service and professional conduct
• Assist with staff orientation and competency assessments
• Oversee patient safety, staff development, and maintaining high standards of emergency care

Qualifications

• Nursing degree from an accredited program
• Valid RN license in the state
• Relevant certifications such as CPR, ACLS, PALS/ENPC, NRP, or specialized training depending on the department
• Minimum of two years clinical nursing experience
• Preferred management or supervisory experience
• Additional certifications in specialty areas are advantageous
