About the Role

Coordinates the delivery of quality nursing care for patients from birth through the lifecycle, as well as operational issues during his/her shift. Provides clinical care as needed when census demands. Communicates patient care, departmental issues, and staff concerns to the appropriate leader(s). Serves as a resource for guidance and assistance to the staff.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates the delivery of quality nursing care for patients from birth through the lifecycle, as well as operational issues during the assigned shift.
• Provides clinical care as needed when census demands.
• Communicates patient care, departmental issues, and staff concerns to the appropriate leader(s).
• Serves as a resource for guidance and assistance to the staff.
• Collects pertinent data and information relative to the healthcare consumer's health or the situation.
• Analyzes the assessment data to determine actual or potential diagnoses, problems, and issues.
• Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the healthcare consumer or the situation.
• Develops a plan that prescribes strategies to attain expected, measurable outcomes.

Requirements

• Graduate from a recognized, accredited school of nursing.
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Preferred).
• 1 year of nursing experience in a hospital setting (Required).
• 2 or more years of nursing experience in a hospital setting (Preferred).

Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications

• RN - Registered Nurse - Georgia State Licensure and/or NLC/eNLC Multistate Licensure (Required).
• BCLS - Basic Life Support (Required).
• Advanced certification in the field of specialty, if applicable.
• ACLS Certification (Required for Cardiac Tele, Critical Care, Surgical Services including Labor and Delivery).
• PALS Certification (Required for Emergency Department, and Surgical Services if unit provides care to pediatric patients).
• Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification - prior to independent chemotherapy administration (Required for Infusion/Oncology).
• NRP by the end of orientation period (Required for Women's Services: Labor and Delivery, Mother/Baby, NICU, NAT, Nursery).
• AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Program within 12 months of start date (Required for Labor and Delivery).
• PEARS Certification (Required at Piedmont Athens Hospital).

Specialty-Specific Certifications

• Cardiac Tele:
  • ACLS Certification (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete within 6 months of start date).
• Critical Care:
  • ACLS Certification (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete within 6 months of start date).
• Emergency Department:
  • ACLS and PALS Certification (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete within 6 months of start date).
  • Experienced Emergency Department nurses will have 30 days to obtain PALS certification.
  • TNCC Certification (Required at Piedmont Athens, Piedmont Cartersville, Piedmont Columbus Midtown, Piedmont Henry, Piedmont Newton, Piedmont Walton; Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete within 1 year of start date).
  • ENPC Certification (Required at Piedmont Athens, Piedmont Cartersville, Piedmont Columbus Midtown, Piedmont Newton; Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete within 1 year of start date).
• Infusion/Oncology:
  • Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification - prior to independent chemotherapy administration (Required upon hire).
• Pediatrics:
  • PALS Certification (Required at Piedmont Columbus Hospital).
  • PEARS Certification (Required at Piedmont Athens Hospital).
• Surgical Services:
  • ACLS; PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete within 6 months of start date).
• Women's Services:
  • Labor and Delivery: ACLS Certification (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete within 6 months of start date), NRP by the end of orientation period, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Program within 12 months of start date.
  • Mother/Baby: NRP by the end of orientation period.
  • NICU: NRP by the end of orientation period.
  • NAT (Newborn Admission Team): NRP by the end of orientation period.
  • Nursery: NRP by the end of orientation period.
