Charge Nurse - Clinical Decision Unit

Role Overview

The RN Charge Nurse provides leadership and clinical expertise during their shift, coordinating resources and staffing to meet patient needs. They serve as a clinical support, role model, and mentor for staff, ensuring professional standards, safety, and quality care.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and adjust individualized care plans
• Prepare patients for ongoing support
• Delegate and coordinate care delivery
• Evaluate patient outcomes and ensure documentation compliance
• Manage staffing needs and control operational costs
• Lead unit activities to promote safety, quality, and regulatory standards
• Mediate conflict and enforce staff accountability
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications & Skills

• Current RN license
• BLS certification
• Unit-specific credentials (e.g., ACLS, PALS)
• Experience in clinical areas and mentoring
• Skills in assessment, planning, leadership, communication, and collaboration
• BSN preferred; commitment to obtaining BSN if not currently held

Physical & Other Requirements

• Visual acuity
• Manual dexterity
• Mobility
• Ability to assist with patient transfers and transport
• May require driving
• Prolonged standing
