About the role
This position will serve as the Chairperson of the Department of Pediatrics at Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine. Reporting directly to the Vice-Dean for Clinical Affairs, the Chairperson will lead the Department in achieving excellence in teaching, research, patient care, administrative services, and community activities.
Responsibilities
- Leadership: Leads the Department toward excellence in teaching, research, patient care delivery, administrative services, and community activities.
- Communication: Communicates the mission, vision, and values of the University, School, and Department to faculty and staff.
- Motivation: Motivates and develops faculty and staff by accurately assessing and addressing their strengths, weaknesses, and developmental needs.
- Academic Oversight: Oversees the provision and management of direct patient care at various settings, works closely with Medical Directors, and ensures adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Academic Development: Ensures adequate faculty effort and oversight for medical education programs, maintains accreditation, and supports faculty in research and scholarly activity.
- Organizational Development: Participates in strategic planning, fosters contractual relationships, and evaluates processes to improve organizational performance.
- Administrative Management: Develops and manages the Department's budget, directs grant writing, recruits and retains high-quality faculty and staff, and conducts performance appraisals.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) or Medical Degree (M.D.)
- AOA or ABMS Board Certification in Pediatrics
- Prior experience in management roles, academic, and professional experience necessary to qualify at the rank of Professor (preferred) or Associate Professor
- Experience in leading departmental leadership positions, involvement in regional/national organizations, coaching, teaching experience, research experience, publications, peer recognition, reputation, patient satisfaction, and advanced degree with experience
- Experience as principal investigator of federal, foundation, or state grants preferred
- Valid NJ Medical License
