About the role
The Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking a Chairperson to lead the Department of Medicine. The Department oversees Divisions of Endocrinology, Rheumatology, General Internal Medicine, Infectious Disease and Pulmonary Medicine.
Responsibilities
- Leadership: Effectively leads the Department toward excellence in teaching, research, patient care delivery, administrative services and community activities.
- Communication: Communicates the mission, vision and values of the University, School and Department to faculty and staff.
- Motivation: Motivates and develops faculty and staff by accurately assessing and addressing their strengths, weaknesses and developmental needs.
- Championing Initiatives: Champions new initiatives, assuming the risk and responsibility for the Department.
- Relationship Building: Asserts own ideas and encourages others to do the same; gains faculty and staff support and commitment, motivates people to take action.
- Professionalism: Acts professionally and responsibly at all times, within and outside of the University, contributing to a positive image of the Department, the School and the University.
- Overseeing Patient Care: Oversees provision and management of direct patient care at ambulatory primary and specialty care sites.
- Academic Oversight: Ensures adequate faculty effort, oversight, and support for programs of undergraduate and graduate medical education.
- Research and Scholarly Activity: Promotes cross departmental and cross school research projects.
- Organizational Development: Participates in strategic planning opportunities for expansion.
- Administrative Management: Develops appropriate budget for the Department, monitors and manages the budget to ensure the attainment of fiscal targets.
- Grant Writing: Directs and oversees grant-writing efforts, providing strategic direction and conceptualization of local, state and federal grants and other extramural funding opportunities.
- Recruitment and Retention: Directs and facilitates the recruitment, retention and professional development of high quality faculty and staff.
- Information Sharing: Creates an atmosphere in which information is shared effectively both vertically and laterally; encourages open expression and exchange of ideas and opinions.
- Performance Appraisal: Conducts all performance appraisals on time; evaluates performance based on outcomes of previously established goals and objectives.
Qualifications
- D.O. or M.D. degree with AOA or ABMS Board Certification in Internal Medicine.
- Prior experience in management roles, academic and professional experience necessary to qualify at the rank of Professor (preferred) or Associate Professor.
- Experience as principal investigator of federal, foundation or state grants preferred.
- Valid NJ Medical License.
