About the role

The Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking a Chairperson to lead the Department of Pediatrics. The successful candidate will report to the Vice-Dean for Clinical Affairs and collaborate with the Dean’s Cabinet and Rowan Medicine Administration.

Responsibilities

• Leadership: Effectively leads the Department toward excellence in teaching, research, patient care, administrative services, and community activities.
• Communication: Communicates the mission, vision, and values of the University, School, and Department to faculty and staff.
• Motivation and Development: Motivates and develops faculty and staff, clearly defining expectations and providing feedback.
• Championing Initiatives: Advocates for new initiatives and ensures their successful implementation.
• Assertiveness: Acts professionally and responsibly, fostering a cooperative and trustworthy environment.
• Clinical Oversight: Oversees the provision and management of direct patient care, collaborating with Medical Directors.
• Academic Leadership: Ensures adequate faculty effort and support for medical education programs, promoting research and scholarly activity.
• Organizational Development: Participates in strategic planning, fosters contractual relationships, and evaluates processes for continuous improvement.
• Administrative Management: Develops and manages the Department's budget, directs grant writing, and recruits and retains high-quality faculty and staff.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) or Medical Degree (M.D.)
• AOA or ABMS Board Certification in Pediatrics
• Prior experience in management roles and academic/professional experience necessary at the rank of Professor (preferred) or Associate Professor
• Leadership experience, including departmental leadership positions and involvement in regional/national organizations
• Academic strength, such as teaching experience, research experience, and publications
• Clinical strength, demonstrated by peer recognition, reputation, and patient satisfaction
• Management strength, including coaching and advanced degree with relevant experience
• Experience as principal investigator of federal, foundation, or state grants preferred
• Valid NJ Medical License
