We are looking for an experienced interim finance executive to provide senior-level leadership for a nationally operating financial services organization in Overland Park, Kansas. This long-term contract position will guide budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning efforts while serving as a trusted advisor to executive leadership during an important transition period.

About the role

The role is centered on strategic finance, performance insight, and cross-functional partnership rather than direct ownership of daily accounting activities.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the annual budgeting cycle and deliver a structured process that supports timely planning and informed business decisions.
  • Refine recurring forecast activities by improving accuracy, consistency, and visibility into financial expectations.
  • Work closely with senior executives to shape financial strategy, evaluate results, and connect performance trends to operational priorities.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to finance management, helping the team stay aligned on goals, reporting needs, and planning deadlines.
  • Translate financial data into clear recommendations for leadership by highlighting risks, opportunities, and business impacts.
  • Strengthen financial planning practices and enhance reporting transparency across the organization.
  • Act as a strategic finance partner during a period of organizational change, offering steady guidance and decision support.
  • Maintain continuity within the finance function and support an effective transition to the permanent CFO once selected.
  • Offer executive-level oversight to accounting leadership as needed, while leaving day-to-day accounting execution with the existing team.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, including service as a CFO or senior finance executive.
  • Demonstrated success leading budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning and analysis initiatives.
  • Strong background in executive partnership, with the ability to advise senior leaders on financial performance and business strategy.
  • Experience stepping into complex environments quickly and delivering immediate financial leadership.
  • Prior work in financial services, lending, banking, or another regulated finance setting is strongly preferred.
  • Comfortable supporting growth-stage or rapidly changing organizations with evolving finance needs.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present financial insights clearly to executive stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote or hybrid environment.

Benefits

  • Medical, vision, dental, and life and disability insurance.
  • Eligibility to enroll in the company 401(k) plan.
