About the role

The Certified Senior Medical Assistant position at Houston Methodist Primary Care Group is responsible for providing comprehensive medical support to patients under the supervision of a physician. This role requires a minimum of five years of medical assistant experience with a focus on managing highly complex, chronic disease cases.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-visit planning and documentation
  • Assisting with patient vitals, medical history, and medication reviews
  • Performing diagnostic tests and treatments
  • Ensuring patient compliance with follow-up appointments and referrals
  • Coordinating care with other healthcare providers and community resources
  • Providing compassionate and safe patient care

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, NHA, or Registered Medical Assistant
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA)
  • CPT - Certified Phlebotomy Technician (ACA)
  • Five years of medical assistant experience with highly complex, chronic disease management or in a specialty discipline

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of medical practice and care of patients
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and family members
  • Proficiency in computer skills for documentation and work-related purposes
  • Advanced assessment competences appropriate for level of practice

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language
  • Ability to communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments
  • Skilled in developing and maintaining clinical quality assurance
  • Ability to solve problems, use good reasoning and judgment
  • Provides safe patient-centered, compassionate, and competent care
  • Completes required continuous training and education
