About the role

The Certified Senior Medical Assistant position at Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group focuses on providing comprehensive support to general surgery patients. This role requires a minimum of five years of medical assistant experience with a strong background in managing chronic diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for examinations and treatments, ensuring all necessary paperwork and preparations are completed.
  • Assists with diagnostic procedures, collecting samples and preparing patients for imaging tests.
  • Administers medications and monitors patients for adverse reactions.
  • Collaborates with healthcare providers to develop and implement care plans for patients.
  • Ensures accurate documentation of patient interactions and treatments in the electronic medical record.
  • Coordinates patient care with other healthcare professionals and external resources as needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of medical assistant experience with highly complex, chronic disease management or in a specialty discipline.
  • Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, NHA or Registered Medical Assistant.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA).
  • CPT – Certified Phlebotomy Technician (ACA).

Skills

  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
  • Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers.
  • Knowledge of medical practice and care of patients.
  • Proficiency in computer skills for documentation and work-related purposes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
  • Ability to work with peers in a team situation.
  • Understanding of the patient population as it relates to the clinical disease process.
  • Advanced assessment competences appropriate for level of practice.

Pay

Salary range for this position is $40,000 - $50,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

Schedule

This position is full-time with a day shift schedule.
