About the role

The Certified Senior Medical Assistant - Neurology position at Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group is responsible for providing comprehensive medical assistance to patients under the supervision of a physician. The role requires five years of experience in highly complex, chronic disease management or in a specialty discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for examinations and treatments, including obtaining vital signs and performing medication reviews.
  • Documents all diagnostic measurements, treatments, and procedures accurately in the patient's electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Coordinates care with other healthcare providers and community resources as needed.
  • Ensures patient compliance with recommendations, medications, and follow-up appointments.
  • Assists with sterilization of instruments and maintenance of exam and treatment rooms.
  • Participates in departmental quality and safety initiatives.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of medical assistant experience with highly complex, chronic disease management or in a specialty discipline.
  • Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, NHA, or Registered Medical Assistant.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association.
  • CPT – Certified Phlebotomy Technician (ACA).

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
  • Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers.
  • Knowledge of medical practice and care of patients.
  • Proficiency in computer skills for documentation and work-related purposes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
  • Ability to work with peers in a team situation.
  • Understanding of the patient population as it relates to the clinical disease process.
  • Advanced assessment competences appropriate for level of practice.
