About the role

The Certified Multi-Site Senior Medical Assistant - Specialty Care position at Houston Methodist is responsible for providing comprehensive medical assistance to patients under the supervision of physicians. This role requires a minimum of five years of medical assistant experience with a focus on chronic disease management or specialty disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Role models and promotes a positive work environment that actively assists interprofessional care teams.
  • Collaborates with all members of the interprofessional health care team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent patient care information and data.
  • Independently executes duties and serves as a clinical resource in the department, using advanced skills and competencies.
  • Performs patient check-in/out functions, scheduling, and managing patient flow.
  • Communicates with patients, obtains vital signs, reviews medical and social histories, and documents care in the EMR.
  • Follows up with patients to ensure compliance with recommendations and ensures patient utilization of MyChart.
  • Coordinates care with hospital, ED, consulting physicians, and community resources.
  • Enters patient and operational data into various database systems with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Accurately records information for functions such as charge entry, registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and authorization.
  • Develops skills of team members and participates in professional development activities.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent education.
  • Five years of medical assistant experience with highly complex, chronic disease management or specialty discipline experience.
  • Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, NHA or Registered Medical Assistant.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA).
  • CPT – Certified Phlebotomy Technician (ACA).

Skills

  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
  • Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers.
  • Knowledge of medical practice and care of patients.
  • Proficient in computer skills for documentation and work-related purposes.
  • Advanced assessment competences appropriate for level of practice.
