About the role
This position is responsible for setting up rigging for construction projects and/or manufacturing plants. Key responsibilities include reading and interpreting project plans, blueprints, and instructions; inspecting rigging equipment; attaching slings and moving materials; guiding loads during lifts; and performing daily safety checks.
Responsibilities
- Maintain proper hand signals to communicate with equipment operators.
- Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and other written instructions.
- Use measuring tools like tape measure, speed square, framing square, etc.
- Inspect rigging equipment for wear, damage, or deterioration before use.
- Attach slings, chokers, spreader bars, etc., to materials to be moved.
- Manually move materials, equipment, parts, or assemblies into position using hoists, chain falls, snatch blocks, or come alongs.
- Guide loads during lifts and position them according to instructions.
- Signal equipment operators during lifts for directional or placement instructions.
- Climb structures to guide and position loads.
- Detach loads and remove rigging equipment.
- Place and remove outrigger pads from cranes and other heavy equipment.
- Complete necessary documentation, reporting, and limited office duties.
- Respond appropriately to safety hazards and warning devices.
- Work under production schedule pressure and attain set standards of accuracy.
- Communicate with foremen regarding any problems, materials required, or hazards noted.
- Perform other tasks as directed by supervision.
Qualifications
- 4+ years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- High School diploma or GED Certification (preferred).
- Applicable rigger training and certificate from NCCER, NCCCO, or from approved 3rd party certification body.
- Knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
- Active participation in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Basic knowledge of the construction processes involved in heavy industrial construction.
- Ability to work with limited supervision.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Knowledge of equipment safety, maintenance, and storage.
- Knowledge of manufacturers' load charts and how to interpret them.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Physical demands include up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
- Ability to work in confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
- Ability to work at heights and adhere to all safety and fall-protection requirements.

Pay
$37.00 / hour, commensurate with experience.
Schedule
This position is a Full-Time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week. Schedule is subject to projects requirements.
Travel
Travel required up to 90%.
