Certified Rigger Journeyman Leadman

About the role

This position is responsible for setting up rigging for construction projects and/or manufacturing plants. Key responsibilities include communicating with equipment operators, reading and interpreting project plans, inspecting rigging equipment, attaching and moving materials, guiding loads, and performing daily safety checks.

Responsibilities

• Maintain proper hand signals to communicate with equipment operators.
• Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and other written instructions.
• Inspect all rigging equipment for wear, damage, or deterioration before use.
• Attach slings, chokers, spreader bars, etc., to materials to be moved.
• Move materials, equipment, parts, or assemblies into position using hoists, chain falls, snatch blocks, or come alongs.
• Guide loads during lifts and positioning.
• Signal equipment operators during lifts for directional or placement instructions.
• Climb structures to guide and position loads.
• Assist in connecting or stabilizing of loads prior to detaching load from equipment.
• Detach loads and remove rigging equipment.
• Place and remove outrigger pads from cranes and other heavy equipment.
• Complete necessary documentation, reporting, and limited office duties.
• Respond appropriately to safety hazards and warning devices.
• Work in other crafts at appropriate levels as requested by project supervision.
• Take direction from higher skilled workers or foremen.
• Support project with other tasks as directed by supervision.
• Communicate with foreman regarding any problems, materials required, or hazards noted.
• Work under production schedule pressure.
• Achieve set standards of accuracy.
• Perform duties in a safe manner.

Qualifications

• 4+ years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• High School diploma or GED Certification (preferred).
• Applicable rigger training and certificate from NCCER, NCCCO, or from approved 3rd party certification body.
• Knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.
• Active participation in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10's and 100's, and perform these operations using units weight measurement and volume.
• Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
• Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards.
