Certified Phlebotomist Tech

Responsibilities

• Performs skin puncture or venipuncture on patients of all ages to obtain blood specimens for laboratory analysis under the supervision of the Laboratory Director/Manager/Supervisor.
• Performs computer data entry, filing, telephone communication, and other clerical duties.
• Possesses adequate knowledge of laboratory test terminology.
• Demonstrates good communication skills and telephone etiquette when interacting with patients and visitors.
• Uses proper phlebotomy techniques and equipment for specimen collection from newborns to geriatric patients.
• Processes specimens for microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, and blood bank.
• Processes specimens for referral to reference laboratories.
• Stocks and orders routine supplies.
• Maintains cleanliness of storage areas, trays, centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers, and work areas.
• Processes or loads specimens on automated laboratory instrumentation following established policies and procedures.
• May assist with sample pickup at hospital/OR, sorting samples for analysis, pathology support, inventory, supply replenishment, mail handling, faxing, phone answering, and product deliveries.
• May work across multiple departments or night/graveyard shifts.
• May be delegated as a Phlebotomy Lead.
• Performs other tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the department manager/director.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a formal phlebotomy training program or equivalent on-the-job training with documented competency required.
• Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician required.
• BLS certification within forty-five days of hire and maintained current, per hospital requirements.
• Minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Pay

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role is $17.33 to $25.09 per hour. The exact starting compensation will be determined based on factors such as skillset, experience, education, credentials, and licensure.

Schedule
