Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - Nursing

Responsibilities

• Escort patients to exam rooms
• Interview patients
• Measure vital signs including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature
• Document all information in patient’s chart
• Assist RN, LPN, and medical providers by promptly reporting changes in the patient’s condition
• Initiate emergency measures, cardiopulmonary resuscitation appropriate to skill level, and assist with retrieving emergency medical equipment as necessary
• Assist medical providers in examination of patients by explaining procedures, positioning the patient, assembling, arranging, and draping instruments and gathering supplies
• Perform Nebulizer treatments
• Administer non-controlled medications orally, topically, intramuscularly, subcutaneously, or intradermally
• Give 12 lead electrocardiogram (EKG) report to RN and/or medical provider
• Perform throat cultures and laboratory sample collection
• Perform Ear irrigation
• Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, prepare sterilization as required
• Assist with administrative tasks such as answering patient telephone calls and scheduling appointments
• Perform other duties as assigned to maintain and enhance the operation of the department
