Certified Medical Assistant

About the role

The Certified Medical Assistant provides support to technologists and other clinical site staff as needed, demonstrating high customer service skills and multi-tasking abilities. Key responsibilities include interviewing patients, measuring and recording information in patient charts, preparing and maintaining examination areas, and assisting with various diagnostic procedures.

Responsibilities

• Undergo Peripheral IV Access and De-Access competency training and skills sign-off
• Check work email daily
• Perform all other related duties as assigned
• Handle routine office administrative procedures including word processing, sorting and reviewing referrals, faxing, and keeping workstations/patient areas clean and organized
• Have general knowledge or radiology procedures including: X-Ray, Bone Densitometry, CT, Mammography, MRI, PET/CT, and Interventional Radiology
• Demonstrate patient-oriented tasks such as preparing patients for examinations, escorting patients, explaining gowning and patient safety measures, taking patient vital signs, obtaining patient histories, providing post-exam instructions, completing safety screening forms, starting IVs, obtaining labs, placing EKG leads, observing patient signs and symptoms, and properly preparing pathology samples
• Administer administrative-oriented tasks such as monitoring appointment lists, performing patient check-in and scheduling, assisting registration specialists, accessing and utilizing PACS system, obtaining chart notes and prior exam results, maintaining and recording medication records, following up on test results, uploading CD images, and providing accurate information to key customers

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• One year clinical and/or office experience preferred
• Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the American Association of Medical Assistants or the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA)
• Medical Assistant – Certified in WA state
• HIV/AIDS course completion
• Current BLS certification

Qualifications

• High proficiency in the use of computers and information systems such as Radiology Information (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS)
• General knowledge of radiology procedures including: X-Ray, Bone Densitometry, Mammography, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, and Interventional Radiology
• Compliance with the TRA Medical Imaging incident reporting policy and procedures
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and carry out instructions effectively
• Effective oral and written communication skills, communicating professionally with other employees, medical facilities, patients, and customers

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to assist in supporting patients of varying weight
• Able to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time
• Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment as necessary

• High attention to detail and ability to handle mentally stressful situations
• Sensitivity towards confidential information
