Responsibilities

  • Takes vital signs on patients.
  • Assists physician with complex procedures during patient examinations, including but not limited to injections, suture removal, venipunctures, biopsies, and EKGs.
  • Adept in sterilization techniques and high-level disinfection (HLD) to prepare trays and equipment for procedures following policies, procedures, and manufacturer instructions.
  • Adheres to Universal Precaution guidelines in the performance of patient care activities.
  • Monitors and manages patient schedules to ensure optimal patient flow among physicians.
  • Greets and escorts patients safely from the waiting area to appropriate areas in the physician's office.
  • Understands and executes physician's preferred treatment protocols when coordinating patient flow.
  • Prepares supplies and assists providers in cast application/removal.
  • Ensures exam rooms are appropriately stocked with supplies and equipment prior to physician seeing patients.
  • Maintains appropriate par levels and informs supervisor when reorders are necessary to avoid shortages.
  • Demonstrates appropriate medical knowledge and effectively communicates instructions to patients.
  • Provides preparatory instructions and answers basic patient questions as required.
  • Demonstrates the ability to understand and react to the unique needs of patients.
  • Flexible to changes in workflow as needed.
  • Prepares and administers medication as instructed by the physician, including injections.
  • Maintains organized work areas to maximize efficiency.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of proper use and maintenance of all equipment relative to the position.
  • Maintains current licensing and certification necessary to perform applicable job functions.
  • Remains calm and courteous when dealing with patients and staff, consistently maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Responds to telephone calls promptly, preferably by the third ring, and repeats key information to ensure accurate message transcription.
  • Demonstrates willingness to work overtime during hospital or department emergencies (e.g., hurricane disaster alerts or staffing limitations).
  • Maintains a complete understanding of Fire, Safety, and other applicable departmental and hospital manuals.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited institution/agency required.
  • Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
  • CPR Certification required.
  • Completion of Medical Assistant training; High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Up to two (2) years of Medical Assistant experience.
