Position Summary
About the role
Saint James Health is seeking a compassionate and motivated Certified Medical Assistant to join our growing healthcare team. The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting providers and ensuring patients receive high-quality, patient-centered care.
Responsibilities
- Daily interaction with patients, families, guardians and coworkers to assist with patient care in adult medicine, pediatric and gynecology.
- Accurately takes and records vital signs, blood pressure, heights/lengths, weights, head circumferences and abdominal girths.
- Performs Point of Care testing, to include but not limited to; EKG's, Peak flow measurement, glucose and HgbA1c measurement, urinalysis, urine HCG testing.
- Performs phlebotomy as ordered by provider, Processes hemoccult samples as ordered by a provider.
- Processes labs, follow-s up on lab results per provider directives.
- Ensures all documentation is entered into patient chart, per clinical workflows set by SJH.
- Rooms patient prior to seeing provider by recording the chief complaint, obtains past medical history, family and social histories for provider to review.
- Performs medication reconciliation for provider to review.
- Ensures all meaningful use measures are recorded accurately for provider review within scope of position and certification.
- Cross trained to front desk to assist with all other office work including but not limited to, answering telephones, scheduling patients, complete patient registration, fax distribution and submissions, filing and scanning.
- Manages specific EPIC work queues and in-baskets with training.
- Collects copayments and account balances.
- Posts payments and accurately reconciles; prints payment batches.
- Sets up insurance referrals.
- Ensures insurance eligibility for active coverage.
- Collects self-pay balances for services rendered based on time-of-service discounted fee schedule.
- Provides coverage to ensure proper staffing when necessary.
- Assists providers, licensed nursing staff, and Front-Office Supervisor as needed to help with the daily operations of the clinical setting.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Current National Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, CCMA, RMA, or equivalent).
- Current BLS/CPR certification.
- Experience using electronic medical records (EMR/EHR systems).
- Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
