About the Role

The person in this position is a member of the Patient Centered Health Care Home team, where each team member plays an integral role in providing patient-centered health care. They assist the provider and the team in the overall coordination, preparation, examination, and treatment of the patient while performing the minimum competency requirements for a medical assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews patient records prior to the visit.
  • Reminds patients of appointments as necessary.
  • Identifies if all previous orders were completed and ensures that all necessary reports are in place.
  • Reviews gaps in care as necessary.
  • Performs check-in duties appropriately and timely.
  • Records vital signs and other measurements accurately.
  • Updates all information related to meaningful use and PCHCH requirements.
  • Carries out necessary check-in clinical procedures appropriately per protocols.
  • Performs check-out duties appropriately and timely.
  • Carries out clinical procedures and orders as directed by the provider efficiently and accurately.
  • Administers medication as ordered by the provider.
  • Assists in simple wound dressing as necessary.
  • Refers patients as necessary and completes laboratory orders accurately.
  • Performs administrative duties such as preparing patient exam rooms, inventorying supplies, and completing necessary forms.
  • Follows up on no-shows and schedules as necessary.
  • Sterilizes, labels, and packs instruments as necessary.
  • Retrieves and returns calls from patients, staff, and other agencies in the community.
  • Calls patients for laboratory and/or other reports.
  • Schedules appointments as necessary.
  • Operates basic medical equipment.
  • Documents consistently and appropriately in EMR.
  • Communicates with the provider and other members of the team to enhance patient care.
  • Regular and reliable on-site attendance is required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Attends and participates in PCMH huddles, in-services education programs, and meetings as required.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service to patients and/or providers and promotes a positive image of KPHC.
  • Provides feedback for quality improvement activities.
  • Arrives to work promptly and informs supervisor when late or absent is imminent.
  • Answers phones within a reasonable amount of time and takes accurate messages.
  • Is open to feedback during evaluations and other times.
  • Demonstrates willingness to improve job performance as necessary.
  • Maintains and improves personal competence.
  • Observes safety and security procedures; determines appropriate actions beyond guidelines; reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification required.
  • One-year certificate from college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current BCLS/CPR certification.
  • Previous experience with basic computer systems required.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology required.
  • Bi-lingual preferred.

Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
