Catholic Substitute Teacher

About the role

We are seeking a part-time Substitute teacher to teach in a classical and Catholic classroom for up to 14 hours per week near Chicago in Lemont, IL, on an as-needed basis for the 2026-2027 academic year. No teaching certification or formal teaching experience is required; we will teach you everything you need to know.

Regina Caeli Academy (RCA) is a classical homeschool academy in the Catholic tradition, offering instruction in a formal Socratic classroom setting on Mondays and Thursdays. The position is hourly, and childcare/nursery is provided.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction and classroom management according to RCA standards
• Follow provided curriculum and grading guidelines
• Uphold a traditional view of the student/teacher relationship

Requirements

• Deep love for the Catholic faith and living the Catholic faith day-to-day, including having received all sacraments appropriate to your state in life
• Ability to sign an Oath of Fidelity to the Catholic Church
• Strong communication skills, good organization, and timeliness
• Must pass a background check and complete RCA Safe Child training prior to teaching
• Must be available to attend one mandatory training day on August 3, 4, or 5, 2026 (8am–5pm; no childcare provided, nursing babies welcome)

Qualifications (Preferred)

• Experience homeschooling or working with homeschool children
• Ministry in your Catholic parish
• Teaching Religious Education or Catechism classes
• Teaching your own children
• Teaching in a classical or private school (not required)

Schedule

• Center hours during the academic year: Mondays and Thursdays only, 8:45am–3:15pm
• No additional vacation days (accommodations made for sick days as needed)
• Up to 14 hours per week, on an as-needed basis
